Jiggity-Jig

Home again.   Our flight was destined to be delayed by the severe storms at Midway in Chicago.  Combine this with a need to be at the airport FAR too early because of Susan's perennial fears that we will be identified as terrorists at airport security, or that fudge will be confused with plastic explosive, or both of our fears that returning our deer-remoldeled rental SUV might take a lot of time, we were in the hands of Southwest airlines for t.w.e.l.v.e. hours.

I will say that Avis got us through their accident reporting process quickly.  They didn't notice the damage to the entire left side of the car.  They were ready to let us walk away, not having noticed ...but I'm not on leave of ...everything.

Fortunately, Southwest gave out soft drinks and snacks for the 5 hour weather delay.  And, the fact that a few people spent their delay drinking too much, made the wait more entertaining.

Our time on the Island was wonderful.  Although, even Susan admits that we ran out of things to do.

The days both before and after the Island were spent far too much in the car.  After our stay, we drove up to Sault Ste. Marie - on the Canada side just so we could see the locks, and spend a night out of the country.  Even the border guard asked us ...why?!?  Neither side of the border up there is too exciting.

We ate pasties ("a" as in pahst), and butter burgers, and fudge from every vendor on the Island.  We had good food and not so good.  I will need to get back "on the wagon" now that we're back.

On the road-trip portion of the time away, we argued and got on each other's nerves, and we stayed in a couple of honeymoon suites.  (One of these was kind of creepy ...and there was no honeymooning.)
We got home about 2am.  (Thanks for picking us up at the airport, Chris!)

All in all, I would give us a "C-" in being kind and patient during the road trip, but a solid "B" on the Island.

Now to transition from feeling as though I'm on vacation to being on leave.  I'm still dreaming about church responsibilities, but I'm beginning to think about mitre saws...
